Former Clemson player names Florida State among toughest places to play in postseason

He's not lying!

Florida State will host the Tallahassee Regional for the third consecutive season, one of only three schools to host a regional in the last three years. FSU earned the No. 10 seed overall, paired with the No. 7 seed Alabama Crimson Tide.

Florida State was vying for a top-eight national seed before losing to Pittsburgh in the ACC Tournament Quarterfinals. One of the biggest caveats with being one of the top eight seeds is having home-field advantage through Super Regional play. Since FSU isn’t a top-eight seed, they would have to travel to Tuscaloosa to face Alabama should they win their regional.

Why would it be a big deal if Florida State had home-field advantage during the postseason? Dick Howser Stadium is among the toughest environments for opposing teams to come and play. If you don’t believe me, a former Clemson player agrees:

Howser at night time or when big rivals come to Tallahassee is a different animal. They are tough, but appreciate good play, even from opposing teams which make them special.

I think I'd take his word for it since he has experience playing in Tallahassee. Listi was part of the Clemson team that traveled to Tallahassee in 2025 to play three spirited games, losing two of three.

If you need more evidence? Look no further than Mississippi State fans who traveled to Tallahassee for the Tallahassee Regional last year. They complained the environment was too loud, which is ironic, because Mississippi State is on Listi’s list as the toughest place to play. It’s not like they don’t constantly have cowbells sounding off or anything.

Florida State will enjoy that advantage when welcoming St. Johns, Coastal Carolina, and Northern Illinois for the Tallahassee Regional.

If Alabama somehow loses their regional, the Super Regional would move to Tallahassee. That would be a huge advantage for the Noles since they are tough to beat at home. Florida State is 10-9 on the road and 1-4 in neutral site games. However, they are 27-4 at home, with a couple of those losses by two runs or less.

The Animals of Section B will be out in full force when regional play begins on Friday, but it's the night games where Howser really makes its presence felt. The Noles will face St. Johns on Friday at 3 p.m., and the game will air on the ACC Network.
