Another exciting week of Florida State news is nearly over, which means it is the perfect time for another edition of Renegade's Roundup. The Seminoles fought hard on offense against Alabama on the gridiron, but came up short due to a rather disastrous defensive performance. Football struggled while volleyball opened ACC play with a five-set thriller against a bitter rival in Miami.
Florida State loses dynamic running back Samuel Singleton Jr. against Alabama with a leg injury
As if the rough 50-36 loss to the Alabama Crimson Tide was not enough, Florida State was dealt some serious injury news after the loss. Running back Samuel Singleton Jr. was confirmed to be sidelined for an extended period of time after suffering a leg injury in the loss. Singleton was seen on the sideline midway through the game with crutches, and medical evaluations after the loss confirmed that the running back would miss at least a few games before returning.
Florida State is not exactly in a position where the team can afford to have injuries occur; however, running back is arguably the position the team can recover from the fastest. Starting running back Ousmane Kromah has been the driving force at the position, while quarterback Ashton Daniels and Singleton take the bulk of the remaining carries.
Losing Singleton certainly hurts the Seminoles' versatility given his pass-catching abilities, but the injury will give Tre Wisner a chance to prove himself for the first time this season. Wisner was a notable transfer portal addition who struggled to carve out a role for himself with two running backs and a mobile quarterback ahead of him on the food chain.
Volleyball defeats Miami, 3-2, to open conference play in Tallahassee
The Florida State volleyball team was back in action last night against a talented Miami Hurricanes team that delivered a back-and-forth five-set battle. The Seminoles managed to walk away with the 3-2 win in the Tully Gymnasium to open the conference season. Outside hitters Kyleene Filimaua and Sofia Moss combined for 34 kills and 27 digs in the comeback win.
Service and attack errors have been what is holding the team back the most, and Miami was able to take a 2-1 set lead thanks to the Seminoles mistakes. The win is certainly great to see, but Florida State needs to travel to Coral Gables for the rematch in three days. The team will need a much cleaner performance to get past the Hurricanes a second time.

Basketball season is nearly here, and the Florida State women's team officially announced the time and date for an upcoming in-season showcase. The Seminoles will be traveling to Richmond, Virginia, to take part in the 4Tha Culture Holiday Hoops Classic. Florida State will be playing Dayton and VCU on November 27 and November 29, respectively.
The women's hoops team also announced two exhibition games ahead of the season against Tampa and Palm Beach Atlantic. Florida State has never officially played either team in a game that counted, but the preseason tune-ups should come in handy.

Both the men's and women's cross country teams opened the 2026 season with the Pre-Regional at Apalachee Regional Park last weekend, and both teams took first place at the event. Sophomore Rylee Blade kicked off the season with her second career win in the women's 6k with a final time of 20:39.2. Blade placed 3rd last season during the invite, but improved upon her performance to take the win this season.
For her successful start to the year, Blade was recognized as the ACC Women's Runner of the Week on Tuesday. Blade and Florida State will be back in action Friday, September 25, in Columbia, Missouri, for the massive Gans Creek Classic.
