It has been quite the busy week in Tallahassee as a new era will be ushered in following the firing of athletic director Michael Alford. The move felt overdue, with the football team struggling on the field the last few seasons, and a sense that Florida State was quickly being left behind in the current NIL race. Alford and the question of when coach Mike Norvell will be fired have grabbed the headlines this week, but there are plenty of other Seminoles' stories worth sharing.
Former Florida State women's basketball center Adut Bulgak named to the inaugural Alberta Basketball Hall of Fame class
One of the biggest stories in Florida State women's sports this week involves none other than Adut Bulgak, who starred on the team from 2014 to 2016. Bulgak averaged 12.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks per game during her stay in Tallahassee after transferring from Trinity Valley Community College. After two seasons with the Seminoles, Bulgak was drafted 16th overall by the New York Liberty before excelling overseas.
The talented center has quite the backstory after traveling from South Sudan to Canada, and later joining Team Canada to begin her national career. Bulgak was a pivotal part of Team Alberta during the 2009 Canada Summer Games, which helped cement her legacy in the province after winning the first female gold medal in basketball. Bulgak has since been a major part of the South Sudan senior women's team after joining in 2023.
Bulgak was officially inducted as a member of the inaugural class, joining 10 other former coaches and players who left an imprint on Alberta.
Link Jarrett adds another in-state 2028 class commitment in Garrett Harper
Recruiting truly never stops on the diamond, and Florida State baseball coach Link Jarrett has been extremely busy this offseason. Jarrett added a fourth commitment to the Seminoles' 2028 class after all but rounding out the 2027 high school class recently. Cocoa Beach two-way player Garrett Harper announced his commitment to the Seminoles on social media late last week after just reclassifying a few months ago.
Harper is an accomplished left-handed pitcher who also plays first base, the outfield, and additionally bats left-handed. There is a real chance Harper pitches and hits in college because he has been dominant both at the plate and on the mound. Harper is a massive 6-foot-4 kid who still has plenty of room to develop, and with a blazing fastball at just 16, the sky is the limit for the talented recruit.
Florida State also announced the baseball staff would be hosting a walk-on tryout event on September 28 for students at Dick Howser Stadium.

The first bit of 2027 football news has been dropped as the ACC announced the conference opponents each team will face next season. Florida State will play against Duke, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Miami, and Stanford at home. The Seminoles will additionally play Cal, Clemson, North Carolina, and Syracuse on the road.
A full release of the schedule, including dates, will be released in early 2027 ahead of the season.

Both Florida State cross country teams will begin the 2026 season at home on Friday for the pre-regionals before hosting the NCAA South Regional Championships in November. Following the opener at Apalachee Regional Park, both teams will be traveling to Columbia, Missouri, on September 25 to compete in the Gans Creek Classic.

Florida State volleyball will be back in action on Friday as the No. 10 Florida Gators come to Tallahassee for what should be a hard-fought match. The Seminoles are currently 5-4 on the season with a major upset over No. 16 Kansas at the LUV Invitational. The Gators are going to be the toughest team Florida State has seen early in the season, and a win over their rivals would be massive heading into conference play.
The Gators, on the other hand, are 7-1 at the moment with key wins over No. 11 Minnesota, No. 20 Baylor, and Miami. Wisconsin is the only team that has been able to figure out the Gators, and it took five sets of very high-level volleyball to do so. Florida State is currently 9-17 against Florida in Tallahassee, and 19-46 in the all-time series.
