Florida State has yet to land an offensive lineman in its rather scant 2027 recruiting class. That could, and frankly needs to change on Saturday when four-star interior offensive lineman DaJohn Yaborough is set to announce his commitment at 6:00 p.m. ET.

The 6-foot-4, 340-pound Arizona product, who began his high school career in Minnesota, is still mulling his options with Cal, Florida State, Mississippi State, and Washington all in the mix. He is the No. 426 overall recruit in the 2027 class by 247Sports Composite, and offensive line coach Herb Hand’s last chance to land a blue-chip player in the trenches.

For the lack of commits in the class, just 13, Florida State has fared surprisingly well with the players the front office, led by newly-hired general manager John Garrett, has made a priority. The last was four-star defensive tackle Sam LeJeune, who chose the Seminoles over Mississippi State.

Link Jarrett keeps building out the rotation ahead of a possible MLB Draft exodus

Wes Mendes had a breakout year as a junior, developing a five-pitch mix and riding it to ACC Pitcher of the Year. Along with Trey Beard and Bryson Moore in the starting rotation, Mendes led the Seminoles to hosting an NCAA Regional in Tallahassee. After getting upset by St. John’s, however, head coach Link Jarrett is in danger of losing his entire starting rotation to this weekend’s MLB Draft.

All three junior pitchers are likely sign candidates in the MLB, but the good news is that Jarrett has been preparing for that possibility in the Transfer Portal. His major addition was Cayden Suchy, who started at UConn last season and will immediately slot in as FSU’s Friday starter.

The rest of the weekend may now also be set with this week’s commitments from former Penn State starter Isaiah Shayter and former Cal freshman phenom Otto Espinoza. Shayter’s numbers were a bit shaky, but he has big-time upside. Espinoza is more plug-and-play in Florida State’s rotation, coming off a freshman year at Cal with a 3.69 ERA in 46 1/3 innings.

RB commitment date set, and Florida State is all but out of it

Ostensibly, Florida State has a major commitment decision to watch on July 29 when three-star running back Asa Barnes has said he’ll make his announcement. The news came on Friday that Barnes will commit at the end of the month, and despite already landing Jayden Miles in the 2027 class, Florida State has room for another running back.

However, there’s an obvious reason that Florida State is almost certainly going to come up short in this race. Earlier this summer, during the official visit window, the Martin, Tennessee product opted not to make a trip to Tallahassee, heading to Fayetteville, Arkansas instead. Tennessee and Arkansas are the clear front-runners for Barnes.

While the added volume would no doubt help Florida State’s recruiting ranking, which currently sits well outside the top-50 nationally, the plan was always to be deliberate in the ‘27 cycle, spending the limited resources wisely while keeping a war chest in reserve in case it does become time to pay Mike Norvell’s considerable buyout after, or maybe even during, the 2026 season.

More: Former Seminole WR dismissed from Arkansas, back in the portal

After his lone season as a Seminole, former top-100 recruit Jalen Brown was dismissed from the program following an arrest for possession of a controlled substance, which carried a third-degree felony charge in Leon County. Now, after a year at Arkansas, Brown is back in the Transfer Portal following more legal trouble.

Brown was arrested this spring for “hindering apprehension,” and though those charges have since been dismissed, new Arkansas head coach Ryan Silverfield has dismissed Brown from the program. Because he was dismissed, he is immediately eligible to enter the portal despite it not being open.
