Forgotten former FSU WR suddenly entering the portal after another dismissal

Another disappointing development for the former top-100 recruit's career.

The transfer portal is not officially open in college football, but a former Seminole is hitting the market nonetheless. Jalen Brown, who caught eight passes for 75 yards for Florida State in 2024, has entered the portal for the third time after spending 2025 at Arkansas.

Brown was arrested on a charge of hindering apprehension after his 12-catch, 167-yard, two-touchdown campaign for the Razorbacks in 2025 and was subsequently dismissed from the team. The charges have since been dismissed, and because he was removed from the roster, the former top 100 recruit in the country and LSU commit is now able to enter the portal as one of the few players available this summer.

Jalen Brown enters Transfer Portal after being dismissed from Arkansas roster

On Wednesday night, Brown announced on social media that all charges against him have been dropped. Brown released the following statement:

"I am thankful to announce that the legal issues I faced have been fully resolved. While this period was incredibly challenging, it served as a vital season for personal development and resilience. I am relieved to move forward with a clean slate and am deeply appreciative of those who remained in my corner throughout this ordeal—your faith in me was invaluable.”

"My priority is now focused on what lies ahead: maturing as an individual, finishing my degree, and letting my future conduct define my character. I am dedicated to honoring my family and community through integrity and hard work. I am eager to begin this new journey with a positive outlook and a clear sense of purpose."

His arrest this April was not the first time he was dismissed from a program amid legal troubles. Brown was also dismissed from the program at Florida State in the spring of 2025 after he was arrested for possession of a controlled substance. He faced a third-degree felony charge in Leon County and was dismissed from the program less than 12 hours later.

Brown’s role was expected to increase in Florida State’s offense in 2025, but the arrest led him to transfer to Arkansas, and now he’ll be looking for a fourth school in as many years. He redshirted his freshman year at LSU, which won the Prolific Prep product’s recruitment back in 2023.

Brown has long been a promising prospect, but he can’t seem to stay out of trouble. There is likely another team willing to take a chance on him, but more than likely, it will be a Group of Six program wowed by his upside. It’s not often G6 programs get access to an athlete like Brown, who was an elite high school sprinter and has real deep speed at wide receiver.

For Brown, it's another setback in a disappointing collegiate journey thus far. Hopefully, he can get things on track at his next school, assuming he can find one this summer with most of the rosters across the country already filled out.
