Florida State scores a second chance with a former four-star commit

This could be an interesting situation to monitor with the Seminoles.

Florida State football has had a productive start to its 2027 recruiting cycle, as it landed four-star defensive end Anthony Cavallaro, who committed to the Seminoles on Friday. This was exciting news for a program that wants to have sustainable success on the recruiting trail.

Head football coach Mike Norvell aims to turn around his era at Florida State. The Seminoles have had four losing seasons in six years under his tenure, which is not ideal for a program accustomed to competing for championships.

Overall, there has to be a reason why highly-touted prospects would say yes to Florida State. The on-the-field production has not been there, and the high school recruits want to see that.

Florida State gets another chance with former four-star defensive back commit Jaylen Scott

The Seminoles previously had Class of 2027 four-star defensive back Jaylen Scott from Williamson High School in Mobile, Alabama, pledged in the fold, but he ultimately decided to back off his commitment and choose the home-state Auburn Tigers.

The Tigers haven't been the model for winning success either, but Scott chose to commit there. After the decision, the fan base had a similar thought process of saying that the coaching staff should not be going after Alabama prospects, especially after the Keldric Faulk situation happened.

However, I am suggesting recruiting wherever you can if the talent is there for a recruit. To be fair, the state of Florida has some phenomenal defensive back prospects, so the Seminoles can save themselves from leaving the state.

Defensive back Jaylen Scott announced that Florida State is back in his top five, alongside schools such as Georgia, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Miami.

This recruitment could be a headache all the way around if the Seminoles pursue him. Florida State is already keeping itself busy by actively putting its recruiting hats on for four-star safety commit Mekhi Williams and trying to ensure that he doesn't flip to Miami.

Overall, this would be a prospect that I would not go 100% into and would look elsewhere to fill the rest of the defensive back target board.
