It's been a busy day of players announcing their planned departure from FSU and the revolving door continues with running back Gavin Sawchuk.
Sawchuk, who arrived at FSU from Oklahoma in the offseason, was part of a rotation of backs that mostly included Sam Singleton and true freshman Ousmane Kromah, Of that trio, Sawchuk led all running backs with 109 carries for 486 yards and eight touchdowns.Â

The 5-foot-11, 210-pound redshirt junior was probably FSU's most reliable running back in the red zone, but Gus Malzahn's ridiculous rotation didn't lend itself to any running back establishing themselves as a feature back.
Sawchuk joins starting safety Ashlynd Barker and reserve offensive lineman Manasse Itete as players that have announced their intentions to enter the portal today. With the recent hiring of John Garrett as the General Manager and Taylor Edwards for another front office personnel position, don't be surprised to see at least a couple more announcements before the portal window opens on January 2.
What is FSU's current running back situation?
Barring any additional transfers, the Seminoles will have Singleton and Kromah returning for next season and presumably battling it out for the starting role. Composite four-star prospect Amari Thomas will be joining the roster in the spring.Â
Jaylin Lucas, who was used sporadically last season, has also announced his transfer. Both Roydell Williams and Caziah Holmes were seniors and are likely out of eligibility. FSU was expected to look into the portal for another running back and Sawchuk's departure almost makes that a guarantee.Â
With Sawchuk and quarterback Tommy Castellanos gone, that means the Seminoles will have to replace their top two rushes and 17 touchdowns on the ground. FSU's next quarterback, whomever that is, will likely be a good runner and help to make up for a lot of that production. Â
FSU is expected to be a very busy team in the portal as the Seminoles will be looking for at least 8–10 starters and a lot of experience depth.Â
