Florida State might have chosen the wrong quarterback in this year's transfer class

This seems to be a criminally low ranking for Ashton Daniels.

247Sports dropped their final transfer portal rankings, and it was quite interesting to say the least (click here for the full rankings). Analyst Bud Elliott called the Seminoles' transfer class "underwhelming", which was disgraceful to a haul that I thought was solid.

Head football coach Mike Norvell is in deep trouble after going 5-7 last year. The energy was sky-high after they defeated Alabama in the opener, but they sputtered to the finish line, and some even thought that Norvell would be fired after the Stanford road game disaster.

Norvell was retained by the administration for the 2026 season, which could be because they have confidence that he can return to form from the 2022 and 2023 campaigns, or it is a steep buy-out to pay for a university that spent so much on suing the conference, Doak Campbell Stadium renovations, and the football-only facility.

Florida State had to go to the transfer portal once again to replenish its talent on the roster, and it started at the quarterback position with former Stanford and Auburn signal-caller Ashton Daniels, who has already been named the starter for 2026.

This transfer portal ranking is way too low for Ashton Daniels

The Seminoles have been known to go to the portal to add a quarterback with previous options such as DJ Uiagalelei and Thomas Castellanos. The Seminoles had other options in the portal that they were going after during their visits.

One intriguing prospect that they had on campus was former Florida quarterback DJ Lagway, who ended up at Baylor. The fan base largely didn't like the idea of Lagway being a candidate, as the former five-star prospect had been very inconsistent during his time with the Gators.

Lagway ranks as the 7th-best quarterback in the updated transfer portal rankings, while Daniels ranks as the 29th-best in the rankings. This is way off in my opinion. I don't know what 247Sports was thinking with some of these rankings, because former Florida State quarterback Luke Kromenhoek is a spot ahead of Daniels at 28, even though he has struggled his whole collegiate career.

For what it is worth, I don't mind the Florida State signal-caller at all. He is a solid option, even though most fans want to see Kevin Sperry or Malachi Marshall.
