Florida State's 2027 recruiting class is listed as the 57th-best in the 247Sports Composite. This isn't what the Seminole faithful want from their favorite team, but that is the reality of where the program is in rough shape, with a combined 7-17 record over the last two seasons.
The negative impact of recruiting these talented prospects is whether or not head coach Mike Norvell will be employed for the 2027 season. The administration decided to retain Norvell for 2026, but the general public doesn't have kind words for the Seminoles' chances to be successful.
This is not where the Seminoles want to be, but this could be a productive week for Florida State as four-star defensive lineman Sam LeJeune and three-star running back Marquis Fennell will be announcing their decision later in the week.
Recruiting could be a bright spot, but Florida State seems to always take one step forward to go two steps back. That is the story of the Seminoles nowadays. However, they could be receiving good news on Monday on the recruiting front.
Florida State looks to land three-star linebacker CJ Ohuabunwa after an official visit with the Seminoles
The Seminoles only had three official visitors this weekend, with three-star safety commit Jemari Foreman, three-star defensive end Stevan Thornton III, and three-star linebacker CJ Ohuabunwa.
Foreman was someone that the coaching staff was trying to ensure that he didn't flip his pledge from Florida State to Louisville, and it seems that they were successful, as the defensive back shut down his recruitment with Florida State.
Plus, Stevan Thornton III was someone that the Seminoles liked and even received crystal ball predictions for Florida State. The only prospect that the fan base didn't have a grasp on was three-star linebacker CJ Ohuabunwa.
Ohuabunwa was a late addition to the official visitor list, but he seemed to like what he saw from the Florida State Seminoles enough to take the trip. The Seminoles already had four-star Gregory Batson Jr. back off his pledge with the program, so the thought process was that they would add another linebacker with four-star Jernard Albright and three-star Olrick Johnson III.
Ohuabunwa mentioned that his commitment announcement would be tomorrow (Monday, June 22nd) at 12 PM EST between Florida State, Kansas, Virginia Tech, and Louisville. While I know that fans get frustrated with "three-star Mike" bringing in three-star prospects, Ohuabunwa recorded 124 tackles (eight for loss), two sacks, four passes defended, and one interception during his junior season (according to MaxPreps).
Florida State has a chance to beat out two ACC programs (Louisville and Virginia Tech) for the services of the talented linebacker.
