Florida State football has plenty of negativity surrounding the program, after its six losing seasons in eight years. Unfortunately, that is the cost of the losses continuing to mount for a program that expects to compete for championships every year.
Fans thought that there was a chance that head coach Mike Norvell could be gone from Tallahassee after the embarrassing loss to Stanford. However, the administration decided to retain Norvell in hopes that he can regain his confidence from the 2022 and 2023 seasons.
The dangerous part about a coach being in limbo is the high school recruiting class. The Seminoles are all the way down as the 38th-best in the 2027 cycle, according to 247Sports Composite. This shouldn't be a huge deal right now with all of the summer official visits coming up soon.
The fan base looks at the arch-rival Florida Gators' recruiting class, which ranks 8th-best in the country, and gets very jealous. It is common to see this since first-year head coach Jon Sumrall, and feel a sense of frustration with the "new kid on the block" getting talented prospects.
The pressure is on for Florida State football during this recruiting period
Meanwhile, I believe that Florida State could make some serious movement this summer. With only six prospects in the fold, there is plenty that the Seminoles need to acquire.
Recruits such as four-star defensive back Ta'Shawn Poole, four-star offensive lineman Jatori Williams, four-star defensive lineman Sam LeJeune, four-star running back Brayden Tyson, four-star defensive lineman Santana Harvey, four-star wide receiver Sean Green, four-star wide receiver Jabari Watkins, three-star defensive lineman Jason Lewis, and three-star quarterback Logan Flaherty.
If Florida State were to get all nine of these prospects, it would rank No. 6 in the 247Sports Composite rankings. This is a lesson that the fan base should not panic about the rankings because it is so early.
The harsh reality is that the recruiting class won't matter if the Seminoles struggle on the field and/or drift away. Mike Norvell cannot afford for the 2027 class to leave elsewhere. Florida State has to get it right in this year's version of the recruiting class.
