Florida State coaches must be having exit meetings, or players already knew they were planning to enter the transfer portal. Florida State outfielder Noah Sheffield is the third player today to announce plans to enter. Sheffield, the son of MLB great Gary Sheffield, spent the last two seasons in Tallahassee.
He was in the starting lineup for much of the early part of the season, with 26 starts. However, the offensive production fell off a cliff once ACC play started in mid-March. Sheffield couldn’t find a suitable home on defense, alternating between the outfield, DH, and second base. Â
FSU INF Noah Sheffield is entering the transfer portal I've been told.

It's too bad he couldn't make contact with that iconic swing the same way his father used to.
Sheffield deciding to hit the portal is the right move, and one I expected once his playing time evaporated. It’s not a huge loss, because once teams figured out he couldn’t hit anything offspeed, that’s all he saw at the plate. He went 1 for his last 16, with the lone hit a solo home run against Miami in the season finale.
The power numbers everone expected (largely because of who his father was) never came, as he only hit four home runs in 112 at-bats. He struck out 28.5 percent of his at-bats this year.
It's clear Florida State is sending a message to clean house with guys on the roster who have not produced close to expectations. I wrote that Florida State needed to improve its offense drastically in 2027, because the amount of strikeouts to home runs didn't make sense.
I suspect Link Jarrett will try to find some proven production in the transfer portal or from the JUCO ranks. It was cool to see the iconic swing in the garnet and gold for the limited time it was there. However, it just didn't work out, and hopefully, Sheffield will find a home suitable to his skillset.
I anticipate more players to enter the transfer portal over the next couple of days. As mentioned, Florida State has a ton of holes to fill on its roster. All of these players leaving is a good thing.
