Florida State baseball (26-11, 10-6 ACC) blew past the Notre Dame Fighting Irish to take game one in an 11-0 seven-inning run-rule win.

It was a win the Noles needed, especially with the offense pounding out 13 hits, including three home runs, to get a much-needed ACC win after getting swept by Georgia Tech last week. John Stuetzer and Eli Putnam hit three-run home runs, Chase Williams went 2-3, Gabe Fraser and Cal Fisher went 2-4, and Nathan Cmeyla went 3-4 with three RBI.

Florida State got a nice win, saved the bullpen, and will have a chance to win the series on Saturday against Notre Dame's ace.

Wes Mendes completely shut down Notre Dame’s offense through six innings of three-hit ball. He had two walks and seven strikeouts.

It was a much-needed win, and Wes Mendes did what we expect each weekend. It was the offensive outburst that hadn’t been there that surprised. FSU pounded out 13 hits, including two home runs and two doubles.

However, the real test for the Florida State offense will be on Saturday when they face Notre Dame’s ace, Jack Radel. He’s 6’5” and 250 pounds. Radel has thrown 54.1 innings, with a 2.82 ERA. He has 69K’s and only 11 walks. Opposing batters are hitting .175 against him, and his WHIP is 0.85.

He’s the type of pitcher that Florida State has struggled against all year, and they will have a new opportunity to see if any of the adjustments they’ve made at the plate are really working. If they can get to a pitcher like Radel and have some success, it could go a long way to the team’s overall confidence at the plate.

Some hitters have seemed to emerge for FSU lately. Hunter Carns, John Stuetzer, Gabe Fraser, Chase Williams, and Brayden Dowd have shown signs of life. Cal Fisher could finally be finding his form. I’ll watch Saturday’s game with great interest. If they swing it anywhere close to how they did on Friday night? I’ll find a glimmer of hope regarding a postseason run.
