Fans have not been happy with the product that Florida State football has put together, as they have combined to have a 7-17 record in the past two seasons. This is not the expectation of a proud program that is used to competing for a championship.
The Seminoles have faced numerous hardships under head football coach Mike Norvell, and some fans even suggest that he should have been fired after the Stanford game. However, the administration decided to keep him around in 2026.
When looking at college football, teams can turn around in an instant. Just look at Indiana, which was previously one of the worst squads in all of college football. However, they hoisted a national championship over the arch-rival Miami Hurricanes.
Florida State loses assistant coach Shaun Shivers to Notre Dame
Florida State football already dealt with adversity, as offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn unfortunately announced his retirement. The fan base thought that Coach Malzahn could have done it over the rivalry loss against the Gators.
However, personal matters and his desire to be a coach also factored into his decision. Malzahn has done everything that he has wanted to accomplish in his coaching career. It stinks that it wasn't able to work out for the Seminoles.
Florida State made more changes to its coaching staff, such as bringing in running back Kam Martin, who had a relationship with Malzahn. They also hired Shaun Shivers in January to be an assistant running backs coach. Shivers also had a relationship with Gus Malzahn.
According to a report from Mike Singer, Shivers is now expected to join Notre Dame's coaching staff as an assistant wide receivers coach.

To be honest, this isn't a huge deal. If the Seminoles lost Coach Martin to the Fighting Irish, then it would be something more to worry about. Regardless, I am excited to see how the running back group produces this season.
