FSU FOOTBALL SEASON OPENER
Florida State football is now five Saturdays away from the Seminoles' 2025 season opener versus Alabama. The game will be televised Saturday, August 30th, on ABC at 3:30 PM EST in the friendly confines of Doak Campbell Stadium.
Even though College Gameday won't be in Tallahassee for the game (Lee Corso's family thought it was logical for his final appearance on the show to be there instead), the pressure is still at an all-time high for head football coach Mike Norvell, who will be entering his sixth season with the Seminoles.
Redshirt senior running back Roydell Williams and redshirt junior defensive tackle Daniel Lyons wear the No. 5 jersey on the Seminoles' roster. In honor of it being five weeks away from kickoff, I want to discuss both of these players.
RB ROYDELL WILLIAMS
It was projected to be former Alabama running back transfer Roydell Williams' only and final season last year with the Seminoles. Still, he suffered a season-ending injury early in the year and was able to redshirt to continue playing college football. He was thought to be in contention for starting reps at the position this offseason. However, the Seminoles added youngster Ousmane Kromah and former Oklahoma transfer Gavin Sawchuk to the rotation. Could Williams still be in the mix?
DT DANIEL LYONS
It was difficult to put a dent in the snap count for defensive tackle Daniel Lyons when the Seminoles had both Joshua Farmer and Darrell Jackson Jr. at the position. Farmer navigated to the NFL this offseason, but Jackson Jr. is still in Tallahassee. Being 6'5" and 337 pounds, Jackson Jr. won't be able to play every snap, so it will be paramount that Lyons is effective this fall camp so that he can get heavily in the rotation within new defensive coordinator Tony White's scheme.
