Florida State football looks to have its eyes set on picking up a quarterback transfer during the portal window since the Seminoles hosted a variety of options, such as Florida's DJ Lagway, UNLV's Anthony Colandrea, and Auburn's Ashton Daniels.
The message is clear: The Seminoles need to add more to their quarterback room.
As of right now, Florida State only has two scholarship signal-callers on its roster in Kevin Sperry and Jaden O'Neal. While both are talented options, teams need more than two scholarship quarterbacks on their roster for depth.
Monday night ended with a bang, as On3's Pete Nakos put in an expert prediction in favor of Florida State to grab Auburn's Ashton Daniels. This likely didn't make the fan base happy, as Daniels isn't a polished passer and has deficiencies.
With that said, Daniels is a veteran quarterback who could provide leadership to the young guys in the room. This might not end the pursuit of Florida's DJ Lagway. He concluded his visit in Tallahassee today and headed to Virginia.
The Cavaliers are trying to get a waiver for a seventh season for quarterback Chandler Morris from the NCAA. However, given how many waivers have been rejected, it might be best is they try to get DJ Lagway, who has two years of eligibility.
However, if Virginia doesn't go after Lagway, I think it could work to bring him to Tallahassee. While I understand that there are too many mouths to feed in the room, it should be able to work itself out. Daniels could be a running threat, while Sperry and Lagway battle it out.
If Sperry loses the competition, it could result in him developing for a year. However, knowing today's transfer portal era, the former four-star prospect would migrate out of the program, and the Seminoles would be back at square one with getting another high school quarterback other than Jaden O'Neal.
