Danny Kanell said what everyone was thinking on Florida State's meltdown in loss

What's more embarrassing? Is it the current road/neutral site losing streak, which sits at 10 games? Or is it the 3-13 record in the ACC over the past two seasons?

Regardless of which number infuriates the FSU fanbase more, the reasons for these lowly stats were on display tonight at Carter-Finley Stadium in a 21-11 loss to N.C. State. The Seminoles continue to find new ways to lose and on Friday night it was with some of the worst special teams you'll ever see in a football game.

The missed field goals were bad enough, but it was the back-to-back turnovers on punt returns that even had former Seminole quarterback Danny Kanell ready to throw up his hands in disgust. 

It was a comedy of errors down the stretch. FSU's defense put up a great fight to give the Seminoles a chance to win on the road for the first time since November 25, 2003. 

The first mistake was just some bad luck. N.C. State flubs a punt, and it just happens to bounce off the helmet of K.J. Kirkland, who probably did what he was supposed to do when the coaches yelled, "Peter!". And, of course, the ball bounced about 30 yards right back to the Wolfpack punter.

But the defense held strong AGAIN and this time the N.C. State punt was better, but Squirrel White couldn't bring it in. That gave the Wolfpack an instant red zone possession and they scored a touchdown on 4th and 6 that effectively ended the game. 

It was a snapshot of the things that have haunted the FSU football program since the college football playoff committee snubbed the Seminoles in 2023 despite having a 13-0 record. Everything that could have gone wrong since then has gone wrong.

Norvell's future will be discussed again and, frankly, it's hard to see a situation where he stays. FSU has become a mediocre program under Norvell, and it's hard to convince any Seminoles fan to want to experience another year of empty promises and disappointing results.
