Florida State baseball (35-14, 16-9 ACC) defeated the Clemson Tigers 8-4 in game one of their three-game series on the road Friday night. One of the big stories coming out of the game was the potential injury to Florida State bullpen ace John Abraham. The worst-case scenario was that it was an arm issue, and he could miss the rest of the season.
However, Link Jarrett provided an update right after the game and confirmed it was not an arm issue but rather something on Abraham’s side.
Ironically, this is at least the third player who has had issues with their side this season, though most of the others were position players.
Link Jarrett didn't seem too worried when talking about Abraham's situation, which was a good sign!
Abraham wouldn’t have pitched again in the Clemson series, so the injury won’t affect the next two games. However, it’ll be interesting to see how Florida State plays it as they are battling to secure a top-eight nationally spot to host postseason games. If they could manage to sweep Clemson, that would alleviate some pressure going into the Miami series.
Then again, Florida State could hold him out of the Miami series and wait until the ACC Tournament. Or, they could just be cautious and wait until regional play starts on May 29th. That would give Abraham a full three weeks to rest and get healed up(if he needs that long).
Abraham walked off the field normally and didn’t seem to be in any excruciating pain, which leads me to believe it was more precautionary than anything. John Abraham has been one of the top relievers in college baseball this year and will play a major role for the Noles in postseason play. Florida State is in a firm position to host regionals, but if they secure a top-eight seed and get John Abraham back before regionals start, it would be massive. Â
