Florida State football will be conducting its second scrimmage of the spring this morning. The media, that will be in attendance, will be limited to two individuals from each site, per the policy of head football coach Mike Norvell and the university.

During the spring scrimmage, it will be a time when the Seminoles have to find consistency on the offensive side of the football where quarterback transfer Thomas Castellanos makes a stride forward with tempo, commanding the offense, building rapport with pass catchers, and utilizing his escapability out of the pocket.

Castellanos's dual-threat ability could make for an easier task for new offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn, who is looking to make the Seminoles' offense one of the best in the country after an abysmal 2024 campaign.

Meanwhile, Castellanos and Malzahn could have some issues as defensive coordinator Tony White runs a multiple 3-3-5 scheme that is meant to confuse opposing offenses.

Coach White has emphasized the importance of physicality. Given the nature of playing the Alabama Crimson Tide in the season opener, the Seminoles have to set the tone early and often with aggression.

However, while the defense is an important facet, I believe that the fan base wants to see the offense shine even if it means that the defense side of the football gives up a couple of huge plays.

I know that a wise man once said: "Defense wins championships." However, if the Seminoles have an elite defense and the same production offensively from last year, they could be in trouble.

Disclaimer: For those who will be asking, the second scrimmage will not be televised. However, the program's social media team will likely release one or two plays from the scrimmage that were noteworthy such as a long catch or a pass breakup.

It is a bummer that Florida State football will not have its Spring Showcase this year, but the excitement will be through the roof when the Seminole fan base fills up the renovated Doak Campbell Stadium for the Alabama game.
