Florida State football knew that things had to change after they finished with a 2-10 record last year. Head football coach Mike Norvell is on a mission to ensure that what happened in 2024 stays in the past.

The fan base understood that talented players had to be added to its roster via the recruiting ranks and the transfer portal. The Seminoles already had a successful haul with high school prospects. Florida State has made it known that they were a destination for transfers as well.

Norvell has been classified as one of the better transfer portal evaluators. However, the 2024 season taught him that the program could not solely rely on the acquisitions to be successful.

Over 85% of the pickups did not pan out. That was a tough pill to swallow. Florida State has picked up twelve transfers already this offseason. The biggest difference is that the Seminoles are not acquiring talent because they recruited them out of high school and they had potential.

Proven production has been the name of the game for the Seminoles' coaching staff. This is a season that requires Florida State to win now. They just picked up former North Carolina redshirt freshman linebacker transfer Caleb LaVallee on Friday afternoon.

LaVallee only recorded 14 total tackles this season, but he had nine of them when his name was called to start versus UConn in the bowl game. He will hopefully provide talented depth at the linebacker position.

Florida State is not finished in the transfer portal, as they have brought many defensive linemen to campus in hopes of reconstructing the trenches on the defensive side of the football.

Coastal Carolina senior defensive end transfer Deamontae Diggs, who recorded 34 tackles and five sacks during the 2024 season, made it official on Friday night as he committed to the Seminoles. Florida State has been known to lure in talented pass rushers via the transfer portal, such as Jared Verse, Jermaine Johnson, and Keir Thomas.

Diggs was supposed to make a trip to Kansas but ended up not visiting as he pledged to the Seminoles. The defensive end is a good get for new defensive coordinator Tony White and his unit.
