Coaching staff has to do whatever it takes to get this offensive player back in 2026

This would be big for the Seminoles this offseason.

Florida State football fell to the arch-rival Florida Gators by a score of 40-21 on Saturday afternoon in Ben-Hill Griffin Stadium. This isn't an opportunity for myself to sell a sense of hope after losing to a rival. What happened on Saturday was embarrassing.

With that said, head football coach Mike Norvell mentioned that there are massive changes coming to Tallahassee in the near future. This concerns many individuals in the fan base because the Seminoles already had to deal with forty-four newcomers to the roster and six new coaches to the staff.

That should be more than enough to get it turned around. However, Florida State has now not won a road game in TWO years. That is unacceptable. However, it is the reality that many face with they elected to stick with Coach Norvell for the 2026 season.

This isn't a change to express hatred towards him because he is a tremendous human being that cares for his players, but things have to change quickly in Tallahassee. With him mentioning that big changes were coming, one of the first lines of business that should happen is bringing back sophomore wide receiver Lawayne McCoy.

Obviously, stand-out pass catcher Duce Robinson is first on the list in terms of needs, but McCoy is right up there. The Miami, Florida native was one of the few bright spots in Saturday's contest, where he had six receptions for 117 yards and one touchdown (according to ESPN Stats and Information).

The former four-star prospect looking to have more of a roll, but quarterback Thomas Castellanos has missed him on a few throws that could have brought his yardage up more during the season. With that said, the expectation is that Castellanos will not be in Tallahassee and there will be a new signal-caller.

The Seminoles have playmakers on offense, but McCoy could be a true difference maker in 2026 if he develops properly. Hopefully, Coach Norvell makes the right decision to keep him.
