Florida State baseball won four games last week, a nice rebound after losing back-to-back games the weekend prior. It has been an up-and-down season early, with the offense and pitching struggling to get on the same page. The offense showed up in midweek action last week against North Florida, but the pitching allowed nine runs.

The pitching showed up over the weekend, allowing three runs in two games, but the offense only scored 10 runs all weekend against The Citadel.

There have been some loud outs, but those big exit velocities need to start turning into production

It’s not like The Citadel has some powerhouse pitching staff, which gives some pause for their struggles. However, the Noles will face a familiar foe on Tuesday evening when they host the Jacksonville Dolphins. It’s a team that usually plays the Noles tough, but FSU defeated them 13-3 in eight innings last month. It’s one of only three games where the offense scored more than six runs.

I’m fairly confident the starting pitching will be good enough to win a lot of games. The offense has several proven players who are largely struggling early this season. However, a Jacksonville staff that struggles with control and allowing home runs might be what the doctor ordered to help the offense find some confidence.

The first pitch will be at 6 p.m., and it’ll be the first Throwback Tuesday of the season, as FSU will bring back some vintage uniforms.

I'll be looking at the quality of the at-bats with a keen eye. FSU has had too many poor at-bats early in the season. They are striking out 24 percent of their at-bats and haven't entered conference play yet. They only have seven home runs and the on-base percentage is below .400. All of these need to see improvements in a hurry, and the Jacksonville game would be a good place for it to start.
