The magical season for the Seattle Mariners and former FSU baseball standout Cal Raleigh continued on Saturday night. The Mariners went into Saturday’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays with the series tied at 2-2.
Toronto took a 2-1 lead into the bottom of the eighth inning, only to see Cal Raleigh launch a game-tying home run from the right side on a 2-0 fastball that was thrown right down the middle of the plate. It’s the type of pitch that Raleigh has deposited into the bleachers over 60 times this season.
Seattle went on to score four more runs in the same inning on a Eugenio Suarez grand slam to put the Blue Jays away with a 6-2 win. They take a 3-2 lead in the series and are one win away from advancing to the World Series for the first time ever.

Cal Raleigh went 2-4 in the contest and is batting .333 in the postseason. His home run on Saturday night was his fourth in the postseason, building on the 60 he hit in the regular season. The impressive thing about Saturday’s homerun was that it came from the right side, which has been the side where he hits for the least amount of power. He became the first switch-hitter to hit at least 20 home runs from both sides of the plate in a season.
The Mariners will travel to Toronto on Sunday night for a chance to advance to the World Series. The game will begin at 8:03 PM ET and will air on FS1.
