Would Better QB Play Equal More Points Scored?
That has to be the case, right? I can think of a handful of times where Thomas Castellanos put a pass on the numbers, and FSU receivers dropped it, so they aren’t without fault.
However, there were numerous times when Thomas Castellanos made the wrong read, took off running too early, tried to play hero ball, failed to see someone wide open, and forced the ball to Duce Robinson.
Ultimately, it was his limitations as a quarterback that cost the FSU offense in the red zone more times than not. A better quarterback doesn’t allow opposing defenses to load up against the run.
A better quarterback takes the checkdown for positive yards instead of forcing a pass that’s intercepted. FSU offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn isn’t without blame. His play-calling left much to be desired, and he ultimately chose Thomas Castellanos as his quarterback.
That decision put limitations on what his offense could be. If he stays and can’t attract a better quarterback for 2026? It’ll be more of the same or worse if Duce Robinson doesn’t return and they can’t replicate what they did on the offensive line again.
