Florida State football is starting to make some waves in the transfer portal. There is a huge issue that is the elephant in the room, which includes having a 2-10 record during the 2024 season.
The thought process is that the Seminoles are not landing many transfers because of their struggles. However, many teams have been able to pursue prospects for their program. Florida State head football coach Mike Norvell wanted to have an abundance talent via the recruiting trail/transfer portal on its roster.
Florida State had quarterback Thomas Castellanos, tight end Markeston Douglas, offensive tackle Gunnar Hansen, defensive end James Williams, and linebacker Stefon Thompson.
The Seminoles are on a mission to get more transfers on its defensive line. Florida State retained defensive tackle Darrell Jackson Jr. from last year, but they lost Patrick Payton, Marvin Jones Jr., Byron Turner Jr., and Grady Kelly to the transfer portal while also having Joshua Farmer declare for the 2025 NFL Draft.
The offensive and defensive trenches will be vital to Florida State if it wants to get back to the nation's elite as a program. Florida State had good news on Friday night as Western Kentucky defensive end transfer DeAnte McCray has committed to the Seminoles.
McCray played in the Hilltoppers's bowl game recently versus James Madison and recorded six tackles. He finished the year with 53 tackles and 2.5 sacks. The defender is listed at 6'4" and 283 pounds and is originally from Jacksonville, Florida.
McCray visited Florida State recently and made his commitment official pretty quickly. Honestly, I think that he and James Williams will be big factors in what new defensive coordinator Tony White wants to do in the 3-3-5 defensive scheme. It also helps that he has played in a similar defense with the Hilltoppers.
