Well, we’re halfway home on the six former high-profile players we’d move on from. Former blue-chip tight end Landen Thomas announced plans he’ll enter the transfer portal on Sunday night.

Thomas is one of six players we wrote that FSU needed to move on from after the 2025 season.

Thomas was one of the highest-ranking players in the 2024 FSU recruiting class, which, on paper, is the best recruiting class in the Mike Norvell era. However, Thomas is the 13th out of 23 signees to leave the FSU program in the last two seasons.

He was the No. 103 player nationally and No. 8 tight end. He has a solid freshmen season once FSU went with its youth movement as the season went down the drain. Thomas had 14 receptions for 173 yards and a touchdown.

However, his production took a nosedive in year two with the experienced Randy Pittman transferring over from UCF. Thomas only had three receptions for 35 yards and two touchdowns in 12 games.

Pittman announced he planned to enter the portal a few days ago, but there’s some talk that he could return to FSU for his final season. This could be a reason that Thomas is entering the portal. Thomas never looked like a player who should have been ranked as high as he was.

In hindsight, there’s probably a good reason he signed with FSU instead of Georgia. At the time, it was a big recruiting win for the Noles. However, like most of the 2024 recruiting class, the player never became an impact player for the Noles. If this means Pittman is returning, that’s a win for FSU.
