Head football coach Mike Norvell has not had the best track record when it comes to developing homegrown talent in the high school recruiting trail. It seems like the Seminoles have resorted to dipping their toes in the transfer portal.
This was frustrating because there are programs out there, such as arch-rival Miami, that emphasize the high school ranks with a sprinkling in the transfer portal. The Hurricanes made it to the College Football Playoff National Championship Game against Indiana this past year, so some of the fan base is comparing their success to Florida State's.
Norvell has been a headliner in many individuals' hot-seat talk around college football. While I am not waving around my pitchfork to get him out of Tallahassee, I get that there is a standard at a proud program like Florida State.
Former Florida State wide receiver Hykeem Williams gets into a scuffle
There have been times when Florida State fans have been excited about the Seminoles' recruiting efforts. We can turn back the clock to the 2023 recruiting cycle, where a notable prospect was five-star wide receiver Hykeem Williams from Stranahan High School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
Williams was an early enrollee at Florida State, but it took him a while to acclimate himself to the collegiate game. There were even media members who were hyping up fellow wide receiver prospect Vandrevius Jacobs over Hykeem Williams due to his impressive showing during the spring.
However, the fan base didn't lose hope in Williams, as they knew he was talented. Unfortunately, it didn't pan out at Florida State for the former five-star recruit, and he decided to transfer to former Florida State defensive back and current Colorado head coach Deion Sanders.
The former Stranahan High School standout didn't do much during his first season with Colorado last year, where he recorded nine receptions for 81 yards and zero touchdowns. Spring practice has started for a couple of programs, including the Buffaloes, and Williams didn't have the start that he wanted as he was involved in a practice fight.

Football is a physical sport, and emotions run high at times. Hykeem Williams is a tremendous young man, and we at ChopChat wish him nothing but the best. However, the talented pass catcher has to focus on his skill set and have a monstrous 2026 campaign.
