DE JAMES WILLIAMS
Florida State received a curse last season, as legendary head football coach Nick Saban stated that the Seminoles had one of the best defensive lines in the country. They went out there and largely underperformed.
The program went out and added new defensive coordinator Tony White and defensive line coach Terrance Knighton from Nebraska, who were supposed to emphasize the philosophy of physicality and aggression.
Florida State added new transfer defensive linemen via the transfer portal to create talented depth in the room. One of the bigger names was former Nebraska pass rusher James Williams, who played under Coach White and Knighton with the Cornhuskers.
Williams had 14 tackles and five sacks in a limited pass-rushing specialist role. However, through five games in Tallahassee, he has just recorded eight tackles and zero sacks. The expectations are sky-high for him to succeed. It isn't known if the higher snap count is taking effect, but something needs to be changed quickly for this defense to be successful.
