REMARKABLE SPECIAL TEAMS

The 2-10 record was horrendous. We all know that it was not something that the fan base should be proud of. Head football coach Mike Norvell wants to turn the page, but he knows that they have to lick their wounds and learn from the mistakes that transpired.

You can point to so many different aspects of what went wrong last year, whether it be coaching or the offensive and defensive sides of the football. Nonetheless, the one factor that is difficult to place blame on is special teams.

During the introductory press conference when Mike Norvell was hired at Florida State, he stated that the Seminoles would build their program around the idea of having quality special teams. He became a man of his word as 2024 saw kicker Ryan Fitzgerald and punter Alex Mastromanno become stars of the show.

You don't want to kick field goals (you want touchdowns), and you don't want to get off the field on third down and have to punt the football. However, it was nice to have weapons at your disposal in the special teams department. The Seminoles will now ask redshirt junior punter Mac Chiumento and redshirt freshman kicker Jake Weinberg to fill the responsibilities (if they are the starters).
