Defense respond to the Offense

One thing we noticed in the Alabama game is how the FSU defense fed off the FSU offense. It’s probably a different season-opener if Squirrel White doesn’t make that big third-down catch on FSU’s first offensive possession, where they would go on to tie the game.

That seemed to energize the FSU defense the rest of that game, and they played good complementary football. It took some time for the FSU offense to find a rhythm, but once they went up 14-0 at halftime, it felt like the defense started playing at a different level.

The defense was quite lucky that Wake Forest beat themselves with penalties in the first half. However, once FSU recovered the fumble on their first offensive possession in the third quarter? It was a wrap. The FSU offense converted that turnover into a touchdown, and the route was on.

The FSU defense forced another turnover, and the FSU offense converted that into a touchdown. It’s complementary football, something we haven’t seen in weeks. We’ve pointed out how the FSU defense has gotten stops early in games, and the FSU offense has failed to capitalize, which has led to the FSU defense playing hero ball or trying to do too much.

We could be wrong, but if the FSU offense gets off to a good start, it seems the FSU defense follows suit.
