Can FSU establish its running game?

This question is somewhat tricky because Pittsburgh hasn’t faced an offense with the weapons that FSU has, nor one that’s focused on running the ball as much.

FSU averages 6.15 yards per carry and Pitt allows 3.19, so it’s likely one of these isn’t accurate. FSU has played better competition and found success on the ground no matter the opponent, so it’s likely that Pitt’s rushing defense is a tad fraudulent.

FSU’s ability to establish its running game or not will be the key to its offensive success. Pitt will likely get its share of tackles for a loss, but it’ll likely give up their share of explosive plays. They have allowed over 50+ plays of 10 or more yards, and that’s against fairly weak competition.

FSU got away from its traditional running game a little too early last week against Miami, and Thomas Castellanos was a big part of it. However, they should stay patient and lean on that Pittsburgh defense, which will eventually open up the vertical passing plays down the field.
