There's a lot of confidence coming from Florida State football these days and the Seminoles' newest recruit, Jay Timmons, seems to be cut from the same cloth.

Timmons, a defensive back from Pittsburgh, was originally committed to Indiana, but the 5-11, 185-pound prospect always seemed to be destined to end up a Seminole. His father, Lawrence Timmons, played linebacker for FSU from 2004-2006 before embarking on a successful NFL career that included winning Super Bowl XLIII with the Pittsburgh Steelers and a Pro Bowl appearance in 2014.

It was that family connection, that opportunity to be a legacy recruit, that seemed to motivate Timmons. It was something he mentioned to Zach Blostein of 247Sports earlier in the month, when he finally received an FSU offer after having a standout performance during their 'Elite Camp'

""It feels great. I came here last year as a freshman with one offer from Akron. I've been here four times now. This has been a dream since I was a kid. I've never been a big sports fan but I've always been a Florida State fan. It's crazy. It's a great feeling.""

With Tuesday's commitments of Timmons and offensive lineman Jakobe Green, another lifelong FSU fan, it's clear that the Seminoles brand is still strong.

Announcements from three of FSU's top recruiting targets are coming up

The summer official visit period is over for FSU and now it's a waiting game for the rest of their summer targets before seeing if the staff will need to reset the board before the fall. A big announcement is coming up on June 29 from five-star linebacker Xavier Griffin. The blue-chip prospect from Gainesville, Ga. took his official visit to Tallahassee last weekend, but the smart money remains on Alabama or USC.

Five-star wide receiver Calvin Russell will make his decision on July 5. He took a mid-week official to FSU on June 15 and is probably considered a long shot to choose the Seminoles. He's the top prospect in the Miami-Dade area this cycle and that means he's the top priority for the Miami Hurricanes.

On July 6, five-star defensive back Chauncey Kennon will make his announcement and the Sarasota-area prospect presents the best chance for FSU to land a game-changing prospect during this recruiting cycle. Kennon took an official visit to Tallahassee on June 13 and while he has kept things fairly close to the vest, people at FSU feel good about the prospects of him joining the class.
