FSU IS RED-HOT!

Florida State football recruiting for the 2026 cycle has been on a heater as of late. The outsiders looking into the program were criticizing head football coach Mike Norvell's recruiting efforts where they stated that he couldn't acquire talent in high school.

However, he showed the naysayers that you should believe in Florida State football recruiting. Some of the coaching staff have been put under a microscope for their ability to recruit by the fan base, but someone consistent in showcasing their prowess has been the defensive backs coach, Patrick Surtain Sr.

Surtain Sr. has a track record that speaks for itself, where he has recruits that want to come play for him in Tallahassee. He has already secured commitments from four-star Darryl Bell III, four-star Tedarius Hughes, and three-star Sean Johnson in the fold.

He received even more good news on Tuesday night as four-star cornerback Jay Timmons from Pine-Richland High School in Gibsonia, Pennsylvania, flipped his pledge from Indiana to Florida State.

This might seem like a layup for the Seminoles since his father (Lawrence) played linebacker for Florida State. However, the program pursued him and got the job done for the ball-hawking defender who had four interceptions during his junior season last year.

Timmons was offered by Florida State on June 1st at the Seminoles' Elite Camp. Ever since then, the program circled him as a candidate that they wanted in their defensive backfield. The coaching staff set him up to officially visit Tallahassee on the final official visit of June.

This trip allowed the coaching staff to build more of a relationship with him as a person. It is a plus that his father played for the university, and he has already been around the program. This marks the second legacy recruit that Florida State has picked up this cycle.
