Perfect Fit For Offense

Thomas Castellanos was hand-picked to join Gus Malzahn in Tallahassee once he became the offensive coordinator hire. It makes a lot of sense because Castellanos signed with Malzahn at UCF as a freshman and spent a year there learning the offense before transferring to Boston College.

The problem with DJ Uiagalelei last season was that we were hoping it would be a good fit based on what we saw from Uiagalelei at Oregon State. It was difficult to tailor the offense to Uiagalelei last year because of his limitations as a quarterback. He had a big arm, but struggled with accuracy and wasn’t the most mobile guy, especially after the injury.

That won’t be the case with Castellanos, as Gus Malzahn will tailor the offense to fit what Castellanos does best. It’ll be similar to what we saw with Jordan Travis early in his career, a huge threat to run with the ball in his hands, but just good enough as a passer to keep most teams honest. Last year, teams figured out Uiagalelei couldn’t run and started pinning their ears back since FSU couldn’t run the ball at all with their subpar offensive line.
