GETTING OFF THE FIELD ON THIRD DOWN

Florida State fired defensive coordinator Adam Fuller during the bye week. The Seminole fan base had a ton of opinions about the former coach. However, I am not here to bash Fuller as I wish him nothing but the best in his professional journey.

With that being said, Florida State's defense struggled to get off the field on third downs multiple times this year. Some of the reasoning behind that was that the Seminoles primarily ran man-to-man coverages and didn't disguise their defense.

They were most comfortable in man as opposed to zone defense. As a result, opposing offenses knew what the Seminoles were running and had plays to beat their preferred defense.

Florida State held Charleston Southern to convert only four of their twelve third-down conversions in the game. To put it more into perspective, the Seminoles allowed three of those conversions in the final two drives of the game when the outcome was already decided and the reserves were in.

I realize it was against a bad FCS opponent, but it is something positive to gear towards Florida.
