HANDED THE OFFENSIVE KEYS TO MALZAHN

Florida State football had one of the worst offensive units in the country during the 2024 season. The Seminoles' motto for their offenses is "Built for Playmakers".

That notion was not accurate as the playmakers struggled to get in the open field. The quarterbacks couldn't get the ball downfield, running backs couldn't find rushing lanes, wide receivers could not consistently catch the football, and the offensive line struggled to run block and pass protect.

Even though Florida State has hired its offensive coordinators, head football coach Mike Norvell has always had the final say so when it comes to the offensive side of the football. Norvell was regarded as one of the best offensive playcallers in college football.

However, after last season's debacle, Norvell handed the offensive keys to the Seminoles' offense to former UCF head football coach Gus Malzahn. The highly-regarded Malzahn was part of Norvell's coaching tree and someone that he trusted.

It takes pride as a head football coach to give up playcalling duties for the betterment of the team and that is what he did in the moment.
