DE JAMES WILLIAMS

Florida State's defensive line was supposed to be one of the biggest strengths of the team in 2024. ESPN's Pete Thamel even told the national audience that NFL scouts suggest that the Seminoles could have the best in the country.

That notion fell flat on its face as Florida State lost its season opener in Dublin, Ireland to Georgia Tech. The Seminoles' fan base is scared to make bold claims in the offseason again. Trust me, I get it... Miami fans do it every year and get disappointed so I didn't think to expect any differently.

Mike Norvell made changes to his coaching staff, which included former Nebraska defensive coordinator Tony White. The Seminoles' fan base was a little nervous about the 3-3-5 scheme but it will be a multiple look that will keep opposing offenses on its toes.

One player that I am excited about on the defense is former Nebraska defensive end transfer James Williams. He has a great relationship with White and defensive line coach Terrance Knighton. Williams was just scratching the surface as a pass rusher during the 2024 season.

As we saw last year, the defense must get after the quarterback. It makes the job of the linebackers and secondary so much easier. I like the potential of Williams in the defense as he continues to show his aggression by making signal-callers uncomfortable.
