DE JAMES WILLIAMS
Florida State's coaching staff was excited to get former Nebraska defensive end James Williams in the transfer portal. Williams finished with five sacks with the Cornhuskers last year in a situational pass-rushing role.
I thought that the redshirt junior defensive end would quickly cause havoc for opposing offenses. Unfortunately, Williams played his first contest in the Garnet and Gold versus the Alabama Crimson Tide, who is thought to have one of the best offensive lines in the country.
The pass rusher struggled mightily on the 17-play, 75-yard touchdown drive that Alabama converted on to make the game 7-0 midway through the first quarter. This allowed the Seminoles' coaching staff to replace Williams and put him on the bench while he collected his thoughts and got back out on the field.
He still only finished with one tackle in the game. Williams got after Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson in the fourth quarter when the game was on the line, but he wasn't able to wrap up Simpson or lose contain on the defensive line.
This is an opportunity to buy low on the valued defensive end for the coming weeks.
