DE AMAREE WILLIAMS

Florida State had the kiss of death last year by legendary head football coach Nick Saban as he mentioned that the Seminoles had one of the better defensive lines in the country. Obviously, this was not the case as the position group struggled with consistency.

Fans wish former defensive end Jared Verse was still in Tallahassee, as the star pass rusher put fear into opposing offenses. Florida State wants to get back to finding those types of athletes.

Unfortunately, Florida State thought that it had something special with the transfers that it picked up this offseason, with defensive linemen James Williams, Deante McCray, Deamontae Diggs, and Jayson Jenkins.

The Seminoles' defensive line has only recorded five sacks in six games this year. This is not ideal for a squad that wants to have success. As a result, the coaching staff moved former tight end Amaree Williams over to defensive end. They originally recruited him as a defensive lineman in high school, but wanted him to see the field as a freshman, so they put him at tight end.

Williams has four tackles and 0.5 sacks as a defender this year, but the coaching staff wants him to hopefully carve out a role for himself as the season progresses.
