Florida State's defense needed to get after the quarterback in its matchup against Virginia. There was some pressure at times when signal-caller Chandler Morris threw an interception, which sparked some confidence in the Seminoles.

However, the only sacks in the game were from safety Ashlynd Barker, who has been a solid player for Florida State during the 2025 season. This was an opportunity for the defensive line to make a difference, since Virginia had five offensive linemen out for the game.

The Seminoles added several new pieces to their defensive line this offseason. One of the more notable pieces was defensive end James Williams. The former Nebraska transfer had five sacks last year with the Cornhuskers, plus he was reunited with coaches Tony White and Terrance Knighton.

With that said, Williams still hasn't recorded a sack this year. He only recorded three tackles in the loss to Virginia last night. If Florida State wants to beat Miami, they have to get pressure on veteran Carson Beck.
