Fire Mire Norvell
Some Florida State fans never liked Mike Norvell from the jump, and others have a touch of delusion regarding FSU in today’s college football landscape.
The days of FSU running wild over teams in college football and winning 11-12 games per year are probably no more. Can FSU realistically compete for a national title every three or four years? That’s probably realistic. Is Mike Norvell the coach to achieve that? It’s hard to say, and it’s understandable to be pessimistic.
The 2024 season was enough to get fired, but FSU allowed him to retool with new coordinators, and we’ve seen what that looks like when they play clean football. It’s a team that can beat anyone in the country.
If FSU runs the table and finishes the season 9-3 or 10-2, would you still want to fire him then? Probably not, so let’s not overreact to a couple of games where he literally had nothing to do with the losses. The decision to go for it on fourth and 8 early in the game against Miami is probably the only decision worth criticizing. The rest is on the coordinators, because he’s not calling the plays.
If FSU finishes the season 7-5 or worse, let’s draw up the coaching hot boards. I’m on record that FSU should win at least eight games with this schedule. However, let’s let the season play out before jumping to conclusions. If this team continues to beat itself with turnovers and bad penalties? That’s an indictment of Mike Norvell, but we need more than a two-game sample size.
