Big Talent Gap Between FSU and Miami

This sentiment comes from recruiting subscription sites looking to sell subscriptions. It couldn’t be further from the truth for a few reasons. The crazy thing is Miami lives in the transfer portal more than FSU.

If the talent gap were that large, with three turnovers, FSU would have lost that game by four touchdowns. Some folks insinuate that Miami took its foot off the gas in the fourth quarter, but they were still passing the ball on every offensive possession late in the game instead of simply trying to run the clock out by running the ball every play.

It’s not like Miami’s offense was some juggernaut. The FSU defense forced Miami to punt three times in the first half, and the difference was the two FSU turnovers for a 14-3 lead. FSU getting stops against Miami in the fourth quarter wasn’t something that happened out of thin air.

FSU moved the ball on offense consistently, but the turnovers and self-inflicted wounds with penalties were drive killers.

The other part is that the betting spread would have been way bigger than a touchdown if the talent gap was as big as some say. The spread was Miami -3.5, and they won by six with FSU turning it over three times. If Miami turned it over three times and FSU didn’t have a turnover? FSU likely wins that game.

If they played again this weekend, the betting spread would probably be about the same, which tells you all you need to know about the talent on both teams.
