GET AFTER THE QUARTERBACK
Florida State is preparing for both Wake Forest quarterbacks this weekend: Robby Ashford and Deshawn Purdie. Purdie has been the better passer of the two, while Ashford has been the dual-threat ability.
It makes sense why their coaching staff could be keeping the Seminoles confused, since they have varying skill sets. Nonetheless, Florida State's defense has played better quarterbacks than this, such as Ty Simpson and Carson Beck.
Ashford has taken seven sacks so far this season, while Purdie has only taken one. Ashford can get adventurous outside the pocket when he tries to scramble, which could lead to more opportunities for the defensive line. This is a Wake Forest offensive line that is only allowing 1.14 sacks per game.
This isn't the same ole-fashioned slow mesh offense that Dave Clawson ran, so there shouldn't be any reason for Florida State's defensive line to not get pressure. Only nine sacks through seven games have been from the defensive line. That statistic needs to improve if the Seminoles want to win the football game.
