RB GAVIN SAWCHUK
This was a contest that I envisioned true freshman rusher Ousmane Kromah to take control of. However, the youngster only had four carries for 43 yards. Kromah didn't even make an appearance in the contest versus Kent State until the second quarter.
This isn't to say that the coaching staff doesn't believe in Kromah's ability as a runner, but the veteran Gavin Sawchuk has the hot hand right now. The former Oklahoma transfer was brought in this offseason to serve as a reliable option while the true freshman gets acclimated to the collegiate game.
Sawchuk dealt with injuries while with the Sooners in 2024, but there was always potential for him to have another 2023 campaign, where he recorded 744 yards and nine touchdowns.
The Littleton, Colorado, native had 11 carries and 97 yards and two touchdowns during Saturday's matchup. He ran with physicality and aggression that most fans didn't see last year from any of the backs on the roster. It is refreshing to see Sawchuk continue his success.
