New Format Next Year

I believe one of the factors that helped lead to this decision is the format changing next year. An undefeated Power 5 conference champion had never been left out of the College Football Playoff over the past decade.

The Committee knew their decision to leave an undefeated FSU out of the top four wouldn’t set a new precedent because the format will change from a top four to the top 12 next year.

They figured they could go ahead and put who they wanted in the playoffs knowing they wouldn’t have to answer to this anymore in the future.

It’s unfortunate because it means the regular season means absolutely nothing. It means going out and playing a tough out of conference games means nothing.

However, in the same breath, if FSU played Michigan’s schedule, they’d be talking about how they haven’t beaten anyone.

See how the double standard works? It’s what they did in the 2014 College Football Playoff when the undefeated FSU football team was the No. 4 seed.
