Special Teams is a Liability

One thing that helps separate the Noles from most teams is their completeness in all three phases. Louisville has a solid offense and defense, but their special teams are not special. I’ve watched their kicker struggle in a few games.

He finished the season 15 of 22 and missed two extra points. Their kickoff return team only averaged 21 yards per return, but their kickoff return coverage team allows 24 yards per return.

They better now let Deuce Spann find a seam! Their punt return game is mid, and Alex Mastramanno usually doens’t allow teams to return punts.

Opposing punt returners average seven yards per return, and their punter only averages 41 yards per punt.

If this game turns into a low scoring game, FSU football should have the edge. I wouldn’t be surprised if special teams play came up big in this game and became a separator between the two teams.
