FSU football: Kentron Poitier could emerge as weapon for Tate Rodemaker
FSU football has had proven pass catching playmakers on the offensive side of the football such as Keon Coleman, Johnny Wilson, Jaheim Bell, among others.
With redshirt senior quarterback suffering a season-ending injury, redshirt junior Tate Rodemaker is having to step into the starting role.
The offensive weapons will have to challenge themselves to maximize their skill sets. One player that could redshirt junior wide receiver Kentron Poitier.
During the offseason, I imagined that the South Florida native had the potential to be the number three wide receiver in the offense, behind big-bodied playmakers Keon Coleman and Johnny Wilson.
However, that has not been the case as Poitier as he has only recorded two receptions for 52 yards. He has battled a multitude of injuries where he has not been available. During the 2022 season, he accumulated 14 catches for 283 yards and four touchdowns.
Fans thought that he would take the next step forward. Unfortunately, the referees took away an amazing touchdown reception by the 6’3” receiver where he had straight up mossed a Wake Forest defender where it was wiped away by an offensive penalty.
Nonetheless, this is a tremendous opportunity for Poitier to showcase his talents on the national stage, especially with Florida’s defensive unit allowing 235.1 passing yards per game (86th in the FBS).
If Rodemaker is able to locate the Gators’ defensive pressures, he could be able to carve up their defensive backs up, who allowed Missouri quarterback Brady Cook to throw for 331 yards.
During the 2022 matchup against the Gators, Poitier had three receptions for 37 yards and one touchdown. Could this be the moment that he needs to gain confidence for the remainder of the 2023 season?
Head football coach Mike Norvell and company should be able to generate explosive plays for an offense that averages 40.1 points per game (7th in the FBS).
