The Seminoles hired Taggart away from Oregon after just one season as the head coach of the Ducks. Maybe Florida State should have waited to see a little bit more from the up-and-coming coach, who only went 7-5 in Autzen.
Taggart replaced Jimbo Fisher after a 7-6 campaign in 2017 and went 5-7 in his first year. That was FSU’s first losing season since 1976 and first time missing a bowl game since 1981.
Year 2 didn’t get much better. Taggart’s team started 4-5 and he was fired midway through his second season. FSU wanted to move on so badly that they opted to fire Taggart despite his $18 million buyout.
