No. 4 FSU football will look to continue its winning ways when they travel to face the rival Florida Gators on Saturday at 7:00 ET on ESPN. The Noles are -6.5 betting favorites, with an over/under points total of 51.

The Gators lost to Missouri on a last second field goal last week. They’ve lost four consecutive games and need a win against FSU to become bowl eligible. Ironically, it was FSU who was in the same situation the last time they traveled to the Swamp.

Florida is (5-6, 3-5 in conference play). Here’s how they stack up by the numbers:

  • 29.6 ppg
  • 27.9 ppg allowed
  • 6.23 ypp
  • 6.67 ypp allowed
  • 4.38 ypc
  • 5.01 ypc allowed
  • 36.09 percent third downs converted
  • 36.64 percent third downs converted allowed

-Defensive FEI (opponent adjusted with garbage time removed): No. 87

Thoughts

This game will look different than it did this time last week. Both teams lost their starting quarterback to injuries sustained in games Saturday night.

The original betting spread was FSU -12. Redshirt junior Tate Rodemaker will start for the Noles, and freshman Max Brown will start for the Gators. FSU has the much better defense and had played quarterbacks similar to Brown. Florida is banged up on the offensive line as well.

The biggest question mark will be how Tate Rodemaker and the offense will perform on the road in a hostile environment. We saw Rodemaker perform well is on the road in a pressure-filled situation last year at Louisville. He played in the Swamp for a short stint in the 2021 game. He has more experience and confidence than then, and has an offense loaded with offensive weapons.

Can the FSU offense give him time to get the ball to his playmakers? Can he avoid turning the ball over? If he can do the latter, I think that greatly enhances FSU’s chances to win the game. I trust this FSU defense against a quarterback with little to no experience.
