Thoughts

Florida State has enjoyed a successful season thus far in 2023. The Seminoles are fresh off a huge victory over their arch-rival Miami Hurricanes by a score of 27-20. While head football coach Mike Norvell and company were favored by 14.5 points at home, they escaped Doak Campbell Stadium with their perfect season still in tact.

While it was not ideal, the Seminoles continue their winning ways. Some individuals felt that FSU could have lost their No. 4 ranking given that Washington defeated then-No. 18 ranked Utah by a score of 35-28 while Florida State struggled with a Miami team that lost three of their last five games heading into the matchup.

However, the College Football Playoff selection committee really took into the effect the importance of the rivalry game as well as how Florida State’s defensive unit performed in the contest (especially in the second half). Here are Miami’s offensive drives in that period of time:

•5 play, 14 yards (field goal-short field with the onside kick)

•3 play, 5 yards (fumble)

•5 play, 12 yards (punt)

•3 plays, 6 yards (punt)

•3 plays, 1 yard (punt)

•3 plays, 0 yards (punt)

•1 play, 80 yards (punt)

•12 plays, 37 yards (interception)

While I completely understand that the defensive unit had to play against true freshman quarterback Emory Williams, it was still a stellar performance for defensive coordinator Adam Fuller and company who consistently deliver in the second halves of games.

Overall, if Florida State wins the remainder of their games on their regular season and wins the conference championship, they are in.

Plain and simple.

Buckle up Seminole fans because things are about to get mighty scary in Tallahassee as Florida State looks to achieve its first College Football Playoff appearance since 2014.
