FSU football has enjoyed a heightened level of success that fans have not seen since the 2014 season where the Seminoles made it to the College Football Playoff under the guidance of head football coach Jimbo Fisher.

Ironically enough, Fisher has been fired as the head football coach at Texas A&M after failing to meet his lofty expectations. Some reports have now suggested that current head football coach of the Seminoles, Mike Norvell, could be in play to be the next coach at Texas A&M.

On Monday afternoon, Norvell asked by the media about the speculation with the Aggies where he provided the following statement:

"There is not really a point to talk about it. It is funny how sometimes those things get out there to try and use that, especially in recruiting. I just told recruits two years ago, as well as those guys we are recruiting now, that it is funny because every coach was talking about how long is he going to be here. They said that he better win some games or he’s not but I told them to watch. I can’t control any of that. We are so excited with what we are building here and where we are going. The opportunity that is ahead, this is a special place and I think that speaks for itself. So I am grateful for the opportunity and I cannot control all those things."

Coaching speculation will always be around in college football as head coaches garner attention with their elevated play on the field. During his first two years in Tallahassee, Norvell seemed to be build a foundation for the future but it did not replicate to positive success where they combined for a 8-12 record.

Some fans even thought the football program was going to hit rock bottom after their historic home loss to FCS opponent Jacksonville State. However, the former Memphis head coach had a plan in place to gather his squad and trust the process through trying times of adversity.

Norvell’s motto of “response” is not just some cliche catch phrase that sounds good to the ear. It defines our everyday life. How will we respond when life doesn’t go our way?

These coaches and players could have easily thrown in the towel when the Seminoles began with an 0-4 record to begin the 2021 season. However, they responded in a massive way where they possess a 25-6 record in their next 31 games after that point.

I realize that some fans are frustrated that Norvell did not flat out say that he was not interested in the position like Oregon head football coach Dan Lanning stated to the media, but he did say that he was building something special at Tallahassee.

Given FSU’s recent success, I believe that it would be quite confusing to leave the Seminoles for the Aggies even if the money were a factor.
